Step 1: Secure and Review Forms

  1. Begin by obtaining a copy of the submitted Form 1A/1B and Form 2.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Phil-IRI Testing Kit, including the Manual for Administration, Test Booklets, Form 3A/3B (Rating Sheet), Form 4 (Individual Summary Record), timer, pen, and recording device.

Step 2: Set Up the Testing Area

  • Choose a well-ventilated, well-lit, and distraction-free area for testing.
  • Ensure the testing kit is complete and arrange necessary materials.

Step 3: Prepare for Testing

  • Review administration procedures and determine the type of test (Oral Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, or Silent Reading Comprehension).
  • Decide on the starting point for each student.

Step 4: Assess Performance

  • Orient and establish rapport with the student.
  • Administer the selected test, asking motivation and motive questions.
  • Record responses, mark miscues, and handle situations where students ask to go back to the selection.

Step 5: Report Results (Using Form 3A/3B)

  • Fill out required student information and test details.
  • Record the time for reading, compute reading rate, and mark miscues.
  • Determine word reading and comprehension levels, referencing Tables 7 and 8.

Step 6: Record Results (Using Form 4)

  • Use separate forms for English and Filipino Phil-IRI tests.
  • Record word reading and comprehension levels from Forms 3A/3B.
  • Complete the Oral Reading Observation Checklist and Summary of Comprehension Responses Table.

Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis

  • Sum up miscues, reading time, and comprehension question answers for quantitative analysis.
  • Analyze miscues and observe student behavior for qualitative analysis.
  • Determine the reading level (independent, instructional, or frustration).

Listening Comprehension and Silent Reading Test

  • Optionally administer Listening Comprehension for nonreaders and Silent Reading Test for further assessment.

Reminders on Conducting and Interpreting Assessments

  • Follow guidelines for conducting assessments.
  • Interpret results accurately and avoid stereotyping.
  • Recognize ethical issues and responsibilities related to child protection and psychological well-being.
