What You Need to Know About DepEd Order No. 36, s. 2016

A student achieving grades of 75-79 can potentially qualify as an honor student if their overall average meets the school's required minimum of 90.

DepEd Order No. 36, s. 2016 is a policy document that outlines the guidelines on awards and recognition for the K to 12 Basic Education Program in the Philippines. It aims to formally recognize the outstanding performance and achievement of learners in academics, leadership, and social responsibility, among other aspects of student progress and development. It also encourages learners to strive for excellence and to become proactive members of the school and community.

One of the awards that is given under this policy is the Academic Excellence Award. This award is given to learners from grades 1 to 12 who have attained a General Average of at least 90 and a passing Final Grade in all learning areas. The General Average is reported as a whole number following DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015, which specifies the guidelines on the assessment and reporting of learner outcomes.

The Academic Excellence Award is given at the end of the school year during a school ceremony. The class advisers will give to the Awards Committee (AC) the list of qualified learners to be awarded. The award has three levels, depending on the General Average of the learner. Refer to Table 1 for the Academic Excellence Award at the end of the school year.
