DepEd Teachers to Receive P7,000 Clothing Allowance in 2024
Teachers in the Department of Education (DepEd) will receive a clothing allowance of P7,000 in 2024, according to the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2024.
The clothing allowance is part of the compensation package for government employees, which is authorized under Section 58 of the GAA. The amount is an increase from the previous years, when the clothing allowance was only P6,000 per year.
The clothing allowance is intended to defray the expenses for uniforms or distinctive clothing that are required for their work. The allowance may be granted in the form of uniforms, textile materials and cash, or cash only, depending on the guidelines issued by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
The clothing allowance covers civilian government personnel occupying regular, contractual, or casual positions; appointive or elective; rendering services on full-time or part-time basis. However, some personnel are excluded from the coverage, such as military and uniformed personnel, foreign service personnel, barangay officials and employees, and those hired without employer-employee relationships.
The clothing allowance will be released to all eligible personnel not earlier than the first working day of April of the current year, subject to existing accounting and auditing rules and regulations, and upon the release of the Notice of Cash Allocation from DBM.
The DepEd has also issued guidelines on the new national uniform designs for teaching and non-teaching personnel for School Years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. The prescribed official uniform shall be worn by all personnel during official school days and official DepEd functions, with proper undergarments, accessories, shoes, logo patch, nameplate, ID, hairstyle, make-up, and jewelry.
The clothing allowance is one of the ways that the government recognizes and rewards the valuable service of teachers and other government employees. It is also a means of promoting a professional and dignified image of the public sector. Teachers and other eligible personnel should avail of this benefit and comply with the guidelines on the proper use and wearing of the uniform or clothing.
