Deadline Reminder: April 15, 2024, Last Day for 2023 Income Tax Return Filing

April 15, 2024 - Today, April 15, 2024, marks the final call for taxpayers to submit their 2023 Annual Income Tax Returns (AITR) and settle their dues to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR). Under the stewardship of Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui, Jr., the BIR has been fervently campaigning for early compliance with tax obligations, urging individuals and entities alike to meet the deadline without delay.

In a series of reminders, the BIR emphasized the necessity of adhering to the prescribed procedures outlined in various advisories, bank bulletins, and revenue issuances, notably Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 51-2024. This circular underscores the requirement for electronic filing of AITRs for the year 2023 through designated BIR platforms, such as the Electronic Filing and Payment System (eFPS) or Electronic BIR Forms (eBIRForms). However, in exceptional cases where electronic platforms are inaccessible, manual filing is permissible.

Moreover, taxpayers are urged to settle their tax liabilities through electronic payment gateways or manually at Authorized Agent Banks (AABs) or Revenue Collection Officers (RCOs) of Revenue District Offices (RDOs). Individual taxpayers are mandated to use the appropriate version of BIR Form No. 1701 or 1701A for filing their 2023 AITR.

Detailed guidelines provided by the BIR specify the procedures for both electronic and manual filing, ensuring a streamlined process for taxpayers. Notably, taxpayers utilizing the eFPS are instructed to file electronically and utilize designated AABs for payment. Similarly, non-eFPS taxpayers are guided to utilize the Offline eBIRForms Package v7.9.4.2 for electronic filing.

Acknowledging the efforts of early filers, Commissioner Lumagui expressed gratitude for their cooperation, emphasizing the importance of timely compliance in fostering national progress. Additionally, the BIR has established e-Filing/Tax Assistance Centers, including one at the National Training Center, to provide support to taxpayers until the deadline.

As the deadline looms, taxpayers are reminded of their responsibility to fulfill their obligations diligently and contribute to the nation's development. The BIR's concerted efforts aim to facilitate a smooth and efficient filing process, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and fostering a culture of transparency and accountability in taxation.
