DMW Reports No OFW Casualties in UAE-Oman Floods

April 18, 2024 - The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reported that there have been no injuries or deaths among our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) following severe flooding caused by recent heavy rains in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman.

The Migrant Workers’ Offices (MWOs) and Overseas Workers Welfare Offices (OWWAs) in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are currently preparing to distribute relief goods, basic necessities, and other essential items to OFW communities in Al Ain and Dubai. This initiative is part of the department’s response to the crisis, aiming to provide immediate aid to those affected.

Yesterday, the MWO-Dubai’s public assistance and training areas were flooded but have since been cleaned and are now operational. The MWOs in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are working closely with the Philippine Embassy and Consulate General, coordinating with Filipino communities to assist our OFWs in this challenging time.

In Oman, the areas severely affected by the floods are villages where no OFWs reside, thus no Filipino workers were directly impacted by the flooding in these areas.

The DMW Head Office will continue to monitor the situation and will issue further updates as these develop. The safety and well-being of our OFWs remain the department’s top priority.
