DepEd’s Annual Medical Examination: Ensuring the Health of Our Educators

The Department of Education (DepEd) in the Philippines places a high value on the health and well-being of its employees. As stipulated in Civil Service Commission Memorandum Circular No. 17, S. 1989 and DepEd Memorandum No. 22, Series 2015, the department has implemented a comprehensive health protocol that includes both mandatory and additional diagnostic tests for its employees.

Mandatory Diagnostic Tests

As per the DepEd memorandum, mandatory diagnostic tests are essential health examinations that every DepEd employee must undergo. These tests are crucial in identifying any potential health risks that could affect an employee’s performance or the overall workplace environment. They are strictly adhered to, ensuring that no employee is exempted from these examinations.

Additional Diagnostic Tests

In addition to the mandatory tests, DepEd also offers additional diagnostic tests. These tests are not compulsory but are highly recommended. They provide a more comprehensive view of an employee’s health status. Employees are encouraged to take these tests for their own benefit and peace of mind.

Additional diagnostic tests are recommended for those who are 40 years and above and/or those who have pre-existing medical condition:

  • Lipid Profile
  • Fasting Blood Sugar or HbAlc
  • BUA
  • Creatinine
  • SGPT
  • SGOT
  • ECG-12 Leads
  • PAP Smear (for females)

Adherence to DepEd Memorandum

These health protocols and requirements are dictated by specific DepEd Memorandum No. 22, Series 2015 which provides guidelines and procedures for conducting the medical evaluations. They ensure that the tests are carried out in a standardized and systematic manner.

Conclusion

In conclusion, DepEd’s annual medical examination plays a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of its employees in the workplace. They help in early detection and prevention of diseases, thereby promoting a healthy work environment. Remember, a healthy employee is a productive employee!
