President Marcos Approves SY 2024-2025 Start on July 29, 2024, Ending on April 15, 2025

In response to public concerns about the school calendar, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has approved the return to a traditional arrangement. Starting this year, the opening of classes for the 2024-2025 school year will be on July 29 and will conclude on April 15, 2025.

This decision marks a gradual shift back to the old June-to-March school calendar. President Marcos met with Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte at the Malacañan Palace to discuss two options for implementing the new calendar.

The first option includes 180 school days with 15 in-person Saturday classes, while the second option reduces the school year to 165 days without Saturday classes. Both options would end the school year on March 31, 2025.

However, President Marcos expressed concern that the 165-day calendar might compromise learning outcomes due to reduced contact time. He also emphasized the importance of students’ well-being and resource management. As a compromise, he suggested extending the school year to end on April 15, 2025, allowing students to complete 180 days without Saturday classes.

“Let’s extend the school days. To make it longer, we’ll add more,” President Marcos stated. This decision aims to strike a balance between academic rigor and student welfare. 📚🗓️
