PhilHealth Reassures Filipinos: COVID-19 Benefits Packages Still Available

In an advisory released on June 4, 2024, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) emphasized that its COVID-19 benefits packages remain active and accessible to all members. This comes amidst concerns from some Filipinos regarding the continued support for COVID-19 related healthcare expenses.

The PhilHealth advisory, designated No. 2024-0027, clearly states that "the COVID-19 benefits packages, which covers inpatient admission and testing, are still in effect and can be availed in accredited health facilities." This includes coverage for various necessities during hospitalization for COVID-19, such as room and board, intensive care services, medical staff work, personal protective equipment (PPE), diagnostic and monitoring procedures, medications, and professional fees.

The specific coverage amount depends on the severity of the case. PhilHealth has established a classification system with corresponding package rates. For instance, patients diagnosed with moderate COVID-19 with pneumonia (C19IP2) can avail of a benefit package worth Php 143,267 in Levels 1, 2, and 3 hospitals. More critical cases requiring intensive care can receive significantly higher coverage (refer to PhilHealth https://www.philhealth.gov.ph/circulars/2022/circ2022-0003.pdf for a detailed breakdown).

“We want to assure our members that PhilHealth remains committed to providing financial assistance for COVID-19 related healthcare,” said PhilHealth President and Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel R. Ledesma Jr. in a statement. “This advisory serves as a reminder that PhilHealth is here to help Filipinos navigate the challenges brought about by the pandemic.”

The advisory also includes contact details for PhilHealth's Corporate Action Center Hotline at (02) 8862-2588 and email address actioncenter@philhealth.gov.ph for those seeking further information or clarification.

While the number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines has significantly decreased compared to the peak of the pandemic, health experts continue to urge Filipinos to practice preventive measures such as mask-wearing and social distancing. The continued availability of PhilHealth's COVID-19 benefits provides a safety net for Filipinos who may require hospitalization due to the virus.
