President Marcos Invites Filipinos to Celebrate 126th Independence Day

June 09, 2024 - President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has invited Filipinos to join in the celebration of the 126th Philippine Independence Day, which will be marked by a series of activities starting next week.

In a video message, President Marcos said, “Join us, bring your family, your friends, and most importantly, your Filipino spirit to participate in the celebration of our 126th Independence Day.”

Starting June 10, attractions will be organized at the Quirino Grandstand and Burnham Green. These include a cooking competition, an obstacle course race, nightly free concerts, and a “tiangge” for local products. A “Labuyo Eating Contest” or the Chili Festival will also be organized, along with free film showings of Filipino heroes.

The President also mentioned the “Serbisyong Bayan na One-stop Shop Caravan,” a service that has been implemented in the New Philippines. “And of course, on June 12, we will have the Independence Day parade where twenty-two Filipino-made floats will parade. Various provinces will participate,” he added.

To cap off the celebration, a free concert of the P-pop girl group BINI will be held on June 12 after the “Kalayaan Parade.”

The Philippines is celebrating its 126th Independence Day, an important event in the country. “For the past 126 years until now, we continue to fight for our freedom. Freedom in various aspects of our Filipino identity. More than this, freedom in our territory, sovereignty. That’s why our vigilance is tireless,” President Marcos said.

He added, “Our meetings with various countries to help us advance our welfare and rights are endless. Cultural projects also continue to strengthen our identity as Filipinos.”

President Marcos urged Filipinos to continue to immortalize the essence of the country’s independence. He called on them to continue to raise the flag and participate in national causes.

When asked how he observed Independence Day as a child, the President candidly recalled that they observed it at school with a series of school activities as a reminder of the celebration’s essence.

The President emphasized that Filipinos should always remember the importance of the observance of the country’s Independence Day.
