DepEd Celebrates Women’s Capabilities in the New Philippines
March is National Women’s Month in the Philippines, a time to honor the capabilities and achievements of Filipino women in various fields and sectors. The Department of Education (DepEd) joins this celebration by reaffirming its commitment to promote gender equality and empower women and girls in the education sector.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas: Kakayahan ng Kababaihan, Patutunayan.” This theme calls for a new Philippines where women are given equitable opportunities and not hindered by gender biases and discriminatory stereotypes. It also aims to showcase and harness the full potentials of women and girls in actively engaging in and reaping the benefits of national growth and development.
The celebration of National Women’s Month is important because it recognizes the vital role of women and girls in nation-building and social transformation. It also raises awareness on the issues and challenges that women and girls face, such as gender-based violence, discrimination, poverty, and lack of access to education, health, and other basic services. It also highlights the need for collective action and solidarity among all stakeholders to address these issues and uphold the rights and welfare of women and girls.
The DepEd plays a significant role in the celebration of National Women’s Month by ensuring that the education sector is gender-responsive and inclusive. The DepEd implements various Gender and Development (GAD) programs and projects that address the needs and concerns of women and girls in the education sector. Some of the GAD programs and projects are: Gender Sensitivity Training, Gender Responsive Pedagogy, Gender Mainstreaming, Gender Audit, Gender Focal Point System, Gender Responsive Budgeting, Gender Responsive Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, and Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response.
Through these GAD programs and projects, the DepEd hopes to contribute to the realization of a fair society in the new Philippines, where women’s capabilities are proven and valued. The DepEd also encourages all stakeholders to join and support the National Women’s Month Celebration by using the official hashtag #WEcanbeEquALL. Together, let us celebrate and empower women and girls in the education sector and beyond. 🙌
