CHED Chairman Responds to Accusations Amidst Ombudsman Case

In a recent turn of events, CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III has been accused by suspended Commissioner Aldrin Darilag of engaging in graft and corruption, and grave abuse of authority. The allegations claim that De Vera favored a particular supplier in the procurement process for goods and services, and influenced the awarding of government contracts.

Furthermore, Darilag accuses the CHED Chairperson of obstructing his staff’s work and subjecting them to unnecessary inspections. In response to these allegations, De Vera has stated that he is not involved in any Bids and Awards Committee within CHED or any state university and college, thus lacking the capacity to influence procurement activities.

De Vera also clarified that the 90-day suspension order against Darilag was issued by the Executive Secretary, following which CHED formed a fact-finding committee as directed by the Office of the President. This committee is actively investigating the claims against Darilag and will report their findings accordingly.

The Chairman has denied issuing any memorandum that would prevent Darilag’s staff from working at CHED, emphasizing that there are no restrictions on their attendance. The case continues to unfold as the Fact Finding Committee delves deeper into the accusations.
