In the wake of the African swine fever outbreak that has impacted the livelihoods of many in Oriental Mindoro, the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has stepped in to provide much-needed financial relief. The GSIS has opened an emergency loan window, dedicating a substantial budget of P428 million to assist its members and pensioners affected by the crisis.
This initiative offers a lifeline to those with existing emergency loans, allowing them to borrow up to P40,000 to clear previous balances, ensuring a net amount of P20,000 after settlements. Pensioners and members without prior emergency loans are also eligible for a P20,000 loan to help navigate these challenging times. The deadline for applications is set for March 20, 2024, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.
Eligibility criteria are clear: GSIS members must be residents or employed within the affected areas, have a clean record with no pending legal issues, and maintain a net take-home pay of at least P5,000. Pensioners are not left behind; those residing in the calamity-stricken zones can also access the loan facility, provided their net monthly pension remains at least 25% of the basic amount after loan deductions.
The terms of the GSIS Emergency Loan are designed to be manageable, with a 6% interest rate and a three-year repayment period. Accessibility is a key feature of the loan application process, with the GSIS Touch mobile app and GWAPS kiosks available for members to apply conveniently from any location.
As the community grapples with the economic fallout of the swine fever, the GSIS’s proactive measures bring hope and support to those in need. For more information, affected individuals are encouraged to utilize the various contact points provided by the GSIS, including their website, official Facebook page, email, and dedicated phone lines.
