Holidays or Not, Students Enjoy Fare Discount, Asserts Angara

In a recent announcement, Senator Sonny Angara reminded students that they are entitled to fare discounts throughout the entire period they are enrolled, including holidays. The reminder comes as a reinforcement of the benefits students should enjoy under existing transportation regulations.

Senator Angara emphasized that any violations of this provision could lead to suspensions and fines. He urged students to report any discrepancies to the relevant transportation agencies under the Department of Transportation (DOTr), such as the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

To facilitate easy reporting and inquiries, the following hotlines have been made available:

  • DOTr: 0920-964-DOTR (3687)
  • LTFRB: 1342
  • MARINA: (02) 8524-9126
  • CAB: (02) 8876-1970

Senator Sonny Angara has highlighted the benefits of the Student Fare Discount Act for students across the Philippines. The act, which is expected to benefit over 30 million students, mandates a 20-percent discount on fares for all forms of public transportation, including during weekends and holidays1.

This law, known as Republic Act No. 11314, covers students from elementary to college, as well as those enrolled in technical-vocational schools, ensuring that education is more accessible and affordable2. Senator Angara encourages students to take advantage of this privilege and report any violations to the appropriate transportation agencies.
