Manila, March 25, 2024 — In a move to accommodate the observance of the upcoming Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, Malacañang has released Memorandum Circular No. 45, which mandates a half-day work schedule for government offices on March 27, 2024.

The circular, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, states that work in government offices will be suspended from 12:00 PM onwards on Holy Wednesday. This decision aims to give government employees ample time to observe the religious holidays and facilitate travel across the country’s regions.
While the circular ensures that essential services such as basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other critical operations will remain uninterrupted, the discretion to suspend work in the private sector lies with individual employers.
The announcement comes as authorities anticipate a significant number of Filipinos traveling to their home provinces to partake in the Lenten season’s traditions, marking a period commonly referred to as the Holy Week exodus.
The memorandum takes immediate effect, underscoring the government’s commitment to respecting the religious practices and traditions of its employees.
