Dr. Hidalgo’s journey began in the province of Batanes, where she served as a public school teacher. Her dedication and passion for education saw her rise through the ranks, eventually holding the position of Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Department of Education (DepEd) during the administration of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Despite strong support from various groups, including the DepEd National Employees Union and the Alliance of Concerned Teachers, Dr. Hidalgo was not appointed as the DepEd chief, a role that went to then-Tarlac congressman Jesli Lapus. Nevertheless, Dr. Hidalgo’s influence on education policy remained significant, particularly as the convenor of the K to 12’s values education program.

Dr. Hidalgo’s commitment to education extended beyond her official roles. She chaired the Private Education Assistance Committee, contributing to the development of private education initiatives across the country. Her work has left an indelible mark on the educational landscape of the Philippines.

Tributes have poured in from all corners, with social media becoming a platform for many to express their respect and admiration for Dr. Hidalgo’s contributions. The Private Education Assistance Committee, along with other groups, have publicly honored her legacy.

The family of Dr. Hidalgo has invited the public to pay their last respects at the Premier 1 Chapel, located on the ground floor of the Loyola Memorial Chapels & Crematorium in Commonwealth, Quezon City.

Dr. Fe A. Hidalgo’s passing is a significant loss to the nation. Her life’s work, characterized by kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication, will continue to inspire future generations of educators and students alike.
