In a recent statement, Senator Poe expressed strong condemnation of the water cannon attack by a Chinese vessel on a Philippine supply ship, which resulted in injuries to three Philippine Navy personnel.
“The unprovoked aggression against our servicemen is unacceptable and must cease immediately,” Poe stated. “Such uncivilized actions undermine the spirit of mutual respect and peace in the region.”
The incident, which occurred in the contested waters of the West Philippine Sea, marks a concerning escalation in a series of aggressive maneuvers, including shadowing of vessels, collisions, and now, direct assaults.
Poe highlighted that China’s increasingly hostile tactics are contributing to heightened tensions, contrary to the pursuit of a harmonious resolution to territorial disputes.
“The Philippines has consistently addressed these provocations through legal and diplomatic channels,” Poe added. “However, it is imperative that we hold the responsible parties accountable for their actions to prevent any further harm to our people and our sovereignty.”
The senator’s call for accountability echoes the sentiments of many Filipinos who seek to uphold their nation’s rights and safety in the face of ongoing challenges in the West Philippine Sea.
