CENRO RM’s Remarkable Release: 52 Olive Ridley Turtles Begin Their Journey

In a heartwarming act of environmental stewardship, the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Ramon Magsaysay has successfully released 52 Olive Ridley turtle hatchlings into the wild, marking a significant stride in conservation efforts.

A Timely Discovery and Swift Action

The journey for these turtles began with a fortunate discovery by Mr. Richard Maganoy, an observant employee at Donels Beach Resort, who noticed the hatchlings on the morning of March 28, 2024. His quick thinking led him to contact Mr. Jessie Wison, a dedicated Bantay Dagat, who played a crucial role in ensuring the hatchlings’ safety.

Collaborative Conservation Efforts

CENRO Ramon Magsaysay, under the leadership of Dionisio B. Rago, responded promptly to the call. The Coastal and Resource Management and Biodiversity Conservation Unit’s personnel were dispatched to the site, culminating in the release of the hatchlings into the coastal waters of Barangay Lower Bayao, Tukuran, the following day.

The Plight of the Olive Ridley Turtle

The Olive Ridley Turtle, an endangered species recognized by the DENR and listed as vulnerable by international conservation bodies, faces a myriad of threats in the wild. This release is more than just a gesture; it’s a beacon of hope for the species’ future.

A Step Towards a Greener Tomorrow

This initiative is a testament to the power of community involvement and the importance of safeguarding our natural heritage. As these 52 turtles make their way into the ocean, they carry with them the promise of a better, more sustainable world.
