DepEd Announces New Alternate Uniform Policy for Personnel Amid Rising Temperatures

In response to the climbing heat index across the nation, the Department of Education (DepEd) has issued a new memorandum permitting teaching and non-teaching staff to adopt an alternate uniform. The memorandum, numbered DM-OUHROD-2024-0662, was released under the authority of Wilfredo Cabral, Regional Director and Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development.

The policy, effective from April 11, 2024, allows personnel to wear any collared DepEd polo shirt previously used during official events, such as Brigada Eskwela and Palarong Pambansa, or a white collared polo shirt adorned with the DepEd and MATATAG logos. These tops can be paired with matte black pants made from any fabric, except for leggings, tights, and jogging pants, which remain prohibited under the Civil Service Commission’s Revised Dress Code.

This move aims to provide comfort to the staff while maintaining a professional appearance. The alternate uniform will be permitted until a new memorandum supersedes the current directive. DepEd has called for immediate dissemination and strict compliance with the new guidelines.

For further information, DepEd personnel can refer to the sample design provided in the memorandum’s enclosure or contact the Office of the Undersecretary for Human Resource and Organizational Development directly.
