DepEd Memorandum No. 020, s. 2024: Conduct of the 2024 Palarong Pambansa Competitions

The Department of Education (DepEd) announces the conduct of the 2024 Palarong Pambansa, a scholastic multi-sport competition, to be held in Cebu City from July 6 to 17, 2024. This annual event brings together student-athletes from across the Philippines to compete in various sports disciplines.

Host City and Participants:

The 2024 Palarong Pambansa will be hosted by the local government unit (LGU) of Cebu City, in collaboration with DepEd—Region VII and the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Cebu City.

The competition will feature participation from the 17 DepEd regional athletic associations and delegates from the National Academy of Sports (NAS).

Filipino athletes enrolled in recognized schools overseas may also participate under the banner of Philippine Schools Overseas (PSOs).

Competition Format:

The 2024 Palarong Pambansa will no longer include the Pre-National Qualifying Meet (PNQM). Instead, it will revert to the pre-COVID-19 pandemic set-up, which includes school competitions, division meets, regional meets, and the Palarong Pambansa.

Sports Policies:

The competition will adopt a Winner-Take-All policy for all team sports, including Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Football, Futsal, Sepak Takraw, and Volleyball.

Qualifying Standards will apply to measurable sports such as Athletics, Swimming, and Archery.

Guidelines and Compliance:

The conduct of all competitions, from lower meets (division and regional) to the Palarong Pambansa, will follow the Guidelines on the Eligibility of Athletes and the Technical Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines for different sports.

The no disruption of classes policy, as stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005, will be strictly observed during the 2024 Palarong Pambansa Competitions.

Funding and Administration:

Fund support for Palarong Pambansa-related expenses will be allocated to the regional and schools division offices, as well as DepEd-Region VII and the Schools Division of Cebu City. These funds will be charged to the 2024 Physical Fitness and School Sports Funds (Continuing and Current).
