DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program Aims to Elevate Filipino Living Standards
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the Philippines continues to make strides with its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), a key capability-building initiative designed to transform the lives of the poor, vulnerable, and disadvantaged families and communities through sustained and stable livelihoods.
The SLP is committed to raising the quality of life for Filipinos by providing support in enhancing skills, abilities, and experiences of its program participants, leading to more beneficial economic activities and employment opportunities.
The program’s recent activities include:
- Extending Seed Capital: The DSWD has provided seed capital funds to 25 livelihood associations in Agusan del Norte, enabling them to pursue various income-generating projects.
- Awarding Financial Assistance: In Sorsogon town, the DSWD-5 awarded PHP 3 million in seed capital to 201 individual beneficiaries, fostering microenterprise development.
- Supporting Drug Rehabilitation: Cebu City’s drug rehabilitation program received a significant boost with a P50 million support from the DSWD, highlighting the program’s multifaceted approach to community development.
Moreover, the SLP has launched a year-starter planning workshop to ensure the program’s strategic direction and effectiveness for the current year. This aligns with the SLP’s five-year sustainability plan, which aims to provide long-term impact to beneficiaries, ensuring that the assistance rendered translates into sustainable growth and development.
