Flexibility Urged in Schools Amid Rising Temperatures
Senator Win Gatchalian has called on schools to adopt flexible learning arrangements, including blended learning models, as the country faces extreme high temperatures. Speaking during the Kapihan sa Senado forum on Thursday, April 4, 2024, Gatchalian highlighted the need for adaptive approaches due to unpredictable weather patterns.
“These days, it’s hard to predict the weather, and the trend is leaning towards hotter conditions. In the past, temperatures rarely reached 40 degrees. But now, 40 degrees is becoming the new normal,” said Gatchalian.
The senator further proposed that the Department of Education (DepEd) explore ways to shorten the transition period back to the traditional school calendar. By doing so, students would spend less time in potentially unsafe learning environments during the hottest months. This move aims to safeguard students’ well-being and enhance their overall learning experience. 🌡️📚
