Gov’t Ready to Assist Filipinos in Taiwan

April 3, 2024 - In the wake of the devastating earthquake that struck Taiwan, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has extended a hand of support to the Filipino community affected by the disaster.

The President expressed the nation’s solidarity with the Filipino workers in Taiwan, emphasizing the government’s readiness to provide necessary assistance. “We stand ready to assist and support our fellow Filipinos in Taiwan in any way possible during this difficult period,” he stated following the seismic event that shook the island on Wednesday.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is actively monitoring the situation and ensuring the safety of the 159,480 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) currently residing in Taiwan. President Marcos reassured that the full resources of the government are being mobilized to aid those in need.

“Our hearts are with the people of Taiwan as they endure the aftermath of today’s powerful earthquake,” the chief executive said, reflecting the deep concern for the well-being of both the local and Filipino communities.

Initial reports indicate that the earthquake, which registered a magnitude of 7.4, resulted in the tragic loss of four lives and left 57 others injured. The tremor also led to the collapse of several structures in the area south of Hualien, raising alarms about the safety of residents and the structural integrity of buildings.

As rescue efforts continue, the Philippine government stands in solidarity with the victims and their families, offering support and condolences during this challenging time.
