Luzon Grid Status: Red and Yellow Alerts Issued, 16 April 2024
April 16, 2024 - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has issued a Red Alert and a Yellow Alert for the Luzon grid today, 16 April 2024.
The available capacity of the grid is 13,537MW, while the peak demand is 13,024MW. Nineteen (19) power plants are currently on forced outage, while three (3) others are running on derated capacities. This results in a total of 2,117.3MW being unavailable to the grid.
A Red Alert status is issued when the power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement. This means that there is a high possibility of power interruptions during peak hours.
A Yellow Alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement. This indicates that the power reserves are below the required level, but it does not necessarily lead to power outages.
The NGCP is closely monitoring the situation and is coordinating with the concerned power plants to address the issue. Consumers are advised to conserve energy to help alleviate the situation.
