Over P5.8 Billion Approved for Construction of 1,834 New Classrooms Nationwide

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) announced the release of P5.830 billion for the construction of 1,834 new classrooms across 216 locations in the Philippines.

Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman signed the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) on March 18, 2024, highlighting the government's dedication to improving educational infrastructure. "This timely release signifies our commitment to building a brighter future for our young learners," Pangandaman said in a statement.

The allocated funds support the first batch of the Department of Education's (DepEd) Basic Education Facilities Fund. This initiative goes beyond just constructing new classrooms. It encompasses:

  • Building, replacing, and renovating kindergarten, elementary, and secondary schools
  • Constructing and equipping technical vocational laboratories
  • Upgrading workshop buildings
  • Repairing and rehabilitating existing classrooms
  • Providing furniture
  • Installing or improving water and sanitation facilities
  • Upgrading disability access features
  • Implementing site improvements

This project aims to enhance educational infrastructure in all income-class municipalities and cities nationwide.
