Palarong Pambansa Archery Tournament: Technical Guidelines

The Palarong Pambansa is a prestigious sporting event in the Philippines, bringing together young athletes from different regions to compete in various disciplines. Among these, archery holds a special place, combining precision, skill, and focus. Let’s delve into the technical guidelines for archery at the Palarong Pambansa.

I. Eligibility

  1. Athlete Eligibility: The eligibility criteria outlined in the DepEd Memorandum apply to archers participating in the tournament.

  2. Gallery of Delegates: Only athletes and coaches listed in the approved gallery of delegates are allowed to participate and compete.

II. Composition of the Contingent

  1. Regional Delegation Teams:

    • Each regional delegation’s archery team comprises a Boys Team and a Girls Team in the secondary level.
    • Additionally, an exhibition of PVC Bow Archery from Region VII includes Boys and Girls teams in the elementary category (under 12 years old).
  2. Team Composition:

    • Each team consists of up to four (4) archers and a team coach.
    • While team chaperones may accompany the girls’ teams, they are not allowed to coach.
    • Team trainers, archers’ personal coaches, parents, and delegation officials must remain outside the archer’s area and field of play during the tournament.
  3. Regional Slots:

    • The top four (4) archers, based on their aggregate scores in the 1440 round, become candidates for the regional slots.
  4. Qualification Scores:

    • To compete in the Palarong Pambansa, each archer must meet the following qualification scores:
      • Boys:
        • 1440 Round: Qualifying score of 1142 (Previous PP Record: 1304 in 2019)
      • Girls:
        • 1440 Round: Qualifying score of 1078 (New PP Record in 2023: 1278)

III. Disqualification

An athlete may be disqualified for the following reasons:

  1. Breaking any eligibility rules.
  2. Using equipment that contravenes World Archery (WA) rules.
  3. Repeatedly shooting more arrows than permitted per end.
  4. Knowingly breaking any rules or regulations, including unsportsmanlike conduct or falsification of scores.
  5. Persistently using a dangerous method of drawing the string.

IV. Sports Events and Disciplines

Competition in archery for the secondary level includes the following events:

  1. 70-Meter Distance:

    • Target face: 122 cm
    • 36 arrows per end (6 arrows per end)
  2. 60-Meter Distance:

    • Target face: 122 cm
    • 36 arrows per end (6 arrows per end)
  3. 50-Meter Distance:

    • Target face: 80 cm
    • 36 arrows per end (6 arrows per end)
  4. 30-Meter Distance:

    • Target face: 80 cm
    • 36 arrows per end (6 arrows per end)
  5. 1440 Round:

    • 144 arrows – aggregate scores
  6. Olympic Round (70 meters):

    • Target face: 122 cm
    • Set System – 3 arrows per end
    • 5 ends – 6 set points
  7. Team Event (70 meters):

    • Target face: 122 cm
    • Set system – 2 arrows per archer
    • 4 ends – 5 set points
  8. Mixed Team (70 meters):

    • Target face: 122 cm
    • Set System – 2 arrows per archer
    • 4 ends – 5 set points
