The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) K9 Force is mourning the loss of one of its most dedicated members, Coast Guard Working Dog (CGWD) Maddox, who passed away on April 16, 2024.

CGWD Maddox, a nine-year-old Belgian Malinois with explosive detection capability, served the country alongside his K9 handler, CG PO3 Joeval Salvacion. He was part of the CGK9 Explosive Detection Dog and Handler’s Specialization Course Class 05-2017.
On the day of his passing, Maddox experienced difficulty in breathing and lethargy, and was found to have a distended stomach. Despite immediate care provided by the duty veterinary officer, Maddox passed away at around 05:25 a.m. The necropsy result revealed that Maddox died due to systemic shock caused by gastric dilatation and volvulus.
The PCG K9 Force offered ceremonial burial rites for Maddox, honoring his over eight years of service. His dedication and service have left an indelible mark on the force and the country.
The PCG expressed their gratitude for Maddox’s service, stating, “Thank you for serving the Filipino people, CGWD Maddox!”. His loss is deeply felt by his fellow public servants and the nation he served.
The PCG continues to recognize the vital role of the K9 Force in maintaining the safety and security of the country. The force remains committed to their mission, inspired by the dedication and service of members like CGWD Maddox.
