Power Outages Due to Tube Leaks at Pagbilao Coal-Fired Plants; Red and Yellow Alerts Declared

April 16, 2024 - The Luzon Grid experienced power outages due to tube leaks at the Pagbilao coal-fired plants. The Department of Energy (DOE) has declared Red and Yellow Alerts in Luzon and a Yellow Alert in Visayas on April 16, 2024.

The Red Alert periods in Luzon are from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The Yellow Alert periods are from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. In Visayas, the Yellow Alert periods are from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

To minimize the impact of the power outages, the DOE is coordinating with stakeholders and has activated the Interruptible Load Program (ILP) in Luzon. The ILP allows large electricity consumers to run their own generators to help alleviate the strain on the grid during periods of tight supply.

Amid these power shortages, the DOE is urging everyone to help stabilize the grid by using energy-saving practices to reduce electricity demand, particularly during peak hours. For updates and energy conservation tips, the public is encouraged to visit the DOE Facebook Page.

The DOE is working diligently to address the situation and restore normal power supply as soon as possible.
