Public School Teacher Killed in Zamboanga del Sur
April 12, 2024 - A public school teacher was brutally gunned down in an ambush while on his way home from work on Thursday afternoon. The incident took place in Barangay Boniao, Mahayag, Zamboanga del Sur.
The victim, identified as Jerome Faunillan Etorma, was a teacher at the Dumingag National High School in Dumingag town, not far from where the tragic incident occurred. According to initial reports from the Zamboanga del Sur Provincial Police Office and local officials, Etorma died on the spot from bullet wounds sustained in the attack.
Etorma’s co-teachers, in their statements to reporters from various radio stations across Zamboanga del Sur, expressed shock and grief over the incident. They described Etorma as a courteous and polite individual who had no known enemies.
The gunmen, who were also on motorcycles, managed to escape immediately after the attack. Barangay officials and police officers who responded to the incident are currently investigating the case.
Relatives and co-workers of Etorma have called on the Dumingag and Mahayag municipal police forces to cooperate in identifying the killers for immediate prosecution. The local community is in shock and mourning, and they demand justice for the senseless killing of a beloved teacher.
