Senator Estrada Advocates for Blended Learning Amidst Heatwave

In light of the recent heatwave, Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada has voiced support for local government units (LGUs) and school heads to consider a return to blended or distance learning. Citing the Department of Education’s existing order (DO No. 44 series of 2022), which allows for the suspension or cancellation of in-person classes due to extreme weather conditions, Senator Estrada emphasized the importance of student welfare during this period of intense heat.

“Understanding the concerns of parents, teachers, and students is crucial as we navigate through these scorching days,” stated Senator Estrada. “The difficulty in concentrating on studies due to the heat, and more importantly, the well-being of our young learners, must be our priority.”

The Department of Education’s order serves as a guideline for LGUs and school officials to implement measures that could prevent health risks such as pertussis outbreaks in schools. The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) are also encouraged to adopt similar precautions.

While educational institutions may adjust their learning modes, government offices are urged to find suitable alternatives to ensure uninterrupted public services.

Senator Estrada’s statement comes as a response to the calls for a shift in the educational approach during the ongoing heatwave, highlighting the flexibility provided by the Department of Education for such circumstances.
