In accordance with the DepEd Order (DO) No. 94, s. 1992, which mandates the annual national elementary and secondary schools press conference under the "Campus Journalism Act of 1991" (RA 7079), the Department of Education (DepEd) is thrilled to announce the upcoming 2024 National Schools Press Conference (NSPC). This year's event, themed "Galing. Talino at Husay ng mga Batang Makabansa sa Diwa ng MATATAG na Adhika," will be hosted by Region VII, with Carcar City serving as the host division and Cebu Province as the co-host division.
Aligned with the principles of Republic Act (RA) No. 10533, also known as the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013, the NSPC aims to establish, maintain, and support a comprehensive system of education relevant to the nation's needs. Furthermore, it echoes DepEd's commitment to holistic development through the MATATAG Agenda, integrating 21st-century skills into the Basic Education Program, including various journalistic experiences across print, broadcast, and new media.
Scheduled from July 8 to July 12, 2024, the conference holds a myriad of objectives:
- Demonstrate mastery of journalism across diverse platforms, including print, broadcast, and online media.
- Highlight the role of journalism in advocating for social consciousness and environmental awareness.
- Advocate for fair and ethical media usage as fundamental principles of responsible journalism.
- Cultivate camaraderie and enrich learning through healthy competitions.
- Provide students with opportunities to apply their journalism skills for future careers.
The NSPC serves as a platform for young talents to exhibit their journalistic prowess, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills essential for their personal and professional growth. As the youth engage in these activities, they not only contribute to the vibrant landscape of campus journalism but also become advocates for positive change in society.
With the stage set for the 2024 NSPC, participants eagerly await the chance to showcase their talents and make meaningful contributions to the field of journalism. Stay tuned for updates as the event approaches, promising a celebration of youthful ingenuity and dedication to excellence in media.
