May 22, 2024 - A tragic accident occurred on Monday, May 20, 2024, at the Sinaliw Malaki Elementary School, claiming the life of a Grade 5 student identified by the alias ‘Criszel’. The 12-year-old was one of four students who fell into a septic tank when the concrete structure they were sitting on collapsed.
The students were having lunch on the concrete chair situated above the septic tank when the unfortunate incident happened. All victims were immediately rushed to the hospital. However, Criszel was declared dead on arrival. The other three victims sustained minor injuries and are currently under observation.
The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed its deep sorrow over the incident. “We extend our sincerest condolences to the bereaved family and friends of the victim,” a DepEd representative said. The concerned Schools Division Office has reached out to the family to provide necessary assistance during this time of grief.
DepEd is also closely monitoring the condition of the other students involved in the accident. School officials are coordinating with the local government unit for medical assistance and the conduct of psychological first aid for the affected learners.
In the wake of the incident, DepEd is working with local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
