The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has always been at the forefront of providing its members and pensioners with the best possible service. In line with this commitment, GSIS has recently announced a significant change in its identification system. The GSIS Memorandum Circular No. 054 Series of 2024 outlines the transition from the traditional GSIS UMID/Card to the new GSIS Digital ID.
The GSIS Digital ID Initiative
The GSIS Digital ID is a part of GSIS’s commitment to enhance security and promote convenience for its members and pensioners. This new initiative eliminates the need for physical identification cards and will serve as the primary GSIS membership identification card.
The GSIS Digital ID will be issued digitally after the enrollment of members and pensioners to the GSIS System. It will be integrated into the GSIS Touch mobile app, providing members and pensioners with a seamless and convenient way to access their identification information.
Members and pensioners previously enrolled in the GSIS System and who have already registered in the GSIS Touch mobile app will find their GSIS Digital ID already integrated into their GSIS Touch account by 31 May 2024.
The Transition Process
With the shift to the GSIS Digital ID, GSIS will discontinue the issuance of the Unified Multi-purpose Identification (UMID) card and eCard effective 31 May 2024.
GSIS members and pensioners who will enroll in the GSIS System starting 31 May 2024 will be issued ATM cards by their preferred servicing bank (Land Bank or Union Bank) not later than five (5) working/banking days upon enrollment in the GSIS System. The bank-issued ATM card will be used for the crediting of benefits and loan proceeds, dividends, and pensions of old age and survivorship pensioners.
The release of ATM cards shall be at the preferred servicing bank’s branch indicated by the member or pensioner during enrollment.
Embracing the Future
This transition to the GSIS Digital ID is a significant step towards digital transformation. It not only enhances security but also promotes convenience for all GSIS members and pensioners. As we move forward into the digital age, GSIS continues to innovate and adapt to provide the best possible service to its members and pensioners.
