Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over 20 areas across the country due to the impending threat of Tropical Depression (TD) Aghon, according to the state weather bureau’s Friday afternoon report.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated in its 5:00 p.m. update that the following areas may experience wind speeds ranging from 39 to 61 kilometers per hour (kph):
Luzon: Sorsogon, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate (including Ticao Island, Burias Island), and certain areas in Quezon.
Visayas: Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Biliran, certain areas in Cebu (including Camotes Islands and Bantayan Islands), and certain areas in Bohol.
Mindanao: Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte (including Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands), Surigao del Sur, certain areas in Agusan del Sur, and Agusan del Norte.
PAGASA reported that the center of TD Aghon was last spotted 135 kilometers (km) northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, moving west-northwestward at a speed of 30 kph. The tropical depression maintained its strength, with maximum wind speeds of 55 kph near the center and gusts of up to 40 kph.
According to the track forecast, Aghon is expected to make landfall over the southern portion of Eastern Samar or Dinagat Islands by tomorrow morning, potentially escalating to a tropical storm.
