Bayad, DepEd Team Up to Boost Financial Literacy Among Filipino Students

June 11, 2024 - Bayad, the leading company in bill payments, and the Department of Education (DepEd) are continuing their partnership to empower Filipino students with financial literacy skills through the "Bayad Sapat Dapat" program.

In its fifth year, the program aims to equip young Filipinos with the knowledge and tools to manage their finances effectively. This year's highlight was the Financial Literacy Quiz Bee held on May 3rd at Mandaue City Central School, Cebu.

Shandy Monica Taborada, a Grade 12 student from Mandaue City Science High School, emerged victorious from a pool of 3,000 participants from Central Visayas. Taborada commended the program for deepening students' understanding of financial principles and strengthening their decision-making abilities.

Other winners include Christine Ella Dabuco Fuentes (Lahug Night High School - 2nd place), Anthony Tenebroso (Ramon Teves Pastor Memorial Dumaguete Science High School - 3rd place), Jinky O. Casio (Science and Technology Education Center of Lapu-Lapu City - 4th place), and Cherry Mae Decena (Mabolo National High School - 5th place).

Mandaue City Science High School Principal Leslie Joy R. PaƱa reaffirmed DepEd's commitment to integrating financial education into the K to 12 curriculum and supporting the "Bayad Sapat Dapat" program to cultivate a generation financially responsible individuals.

Bayad representatives echoed the importance of financial literacy, particularly in the face of ongoing economic challenges. Wendell Kristian P. Labre, Assistant Vice President and Head for Corporate Branding and Marketing Services, emphasized the need to enhance financial awareness. Dennis S. Gatuslao, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, highlighted the significance of financial literacy for students as the country navigates economic recovery.

Bayad President and CEO Lawrence Y. Ferrer reiterated the company's mission to elevate Filipinos' quality of life and empower the next generation to make sound financial decisions through their collaboration with DepEd on financial literacy advocacy.
