BI Deports Another Suspected "Luffy" Gang Member to Japan

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) successfully deported another suspected member of the notorious "Luffy" gang today, June 11, 2024.

54-year-old Takayuki Kagoshima was escorted by Japanese police onto a Japan Airlines flight bound for Narita, Tokyo, departing Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at 10:00 am.

This marks the seventh deportation of a "Luffy" gang member by the BI since authorities were notified of their presence in the Philippines. Six others were expelled in February and March following summary deportation orders issued last year.

Kagoshima was apprehended by the BI's fugitive search unit (FSU) in Pasay City on March 4th.

"Our campaign to locate and deport foreign fugitives hiding within our borders remains relentless," emphasized Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco. "The Philippines will not be a haven for wanted criminals."

According to BI Deputy Spokesperson Mabulac, Kagoshima faces an outstanding arrest warrant in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan, for theft charges. He's been on the BI's watchlist since October 2023 when, alongside eight others, he was deemed an undesirable alien and issued a summary deportation order.

Travel records reveal Kagoshima's arrival in the Philippines on November 7, 2022, with no record of departure, making him an overstaying alien.

Japanese authorities suspect Kagoshima's involvement in the "JP Dragon" syndicate, a group accused of using fake police identities to steal victims' cash cards.

Furthermore, Kagoshima's passport has been revoked by the Japanese government, rendering him undocumented.
