Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP) Making Strides in Registering Filipinos!

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is making significant progress in its Birth Registration Assistance Project (BRAP), aiming to register 2 million Filipinos nationwide by 2024. This initiative ensures all Filipinos have their births documented in Local Civil Registry Offices (LCROs).

Here's a positive update on BRAP as of May 24, 2024:

  • Over 78% of the target (1,562,920 Filipinos) have submitted records for verification.
  • Registration Breakdown:
    • Negative Records (no existing record): A significant 82.2% of submitted records (1,278,575) fall under this category.
    • Positive Records (existing record): 17.8% (276,243) have existing birth certificates.
    • Awaiting Processing: Only 0.5% (8,102) require further processing.
  • Registration Methods:
    • Electronic Endorsement: This is the most popular method, used by 79.1% (210,917) of registrants.
    • Out-of-Town Submission: Used by 12.1% (32,300).
    • Top Priority Loading: This method accounts for 5.8% (15,519) of registrations.
  • Issuing Birth Certificates:
    • Positive Progress: Out of the negative records submitted, 58.6% (156,197) have already been issued FREE Security Paper or SECPA birth certificates.

This update highlights the success of BRAP in reaching Filipinos in marginalized communities, Indigenous groups, Muslim Filipinos, and those living outside their birthplace.

BRAP is a crucial step towards:

  • Ensuring all Filipinos have legal documentation.
  • Facilitating access to essential services like education and healthcare.
