DepEd Calls for Nationwide Activities to Celebrate 126th Philippine Independence Day

The Department of Education (DepEd), through DepEd Memorandum No. 028, series 2024, is encouraging schools across the country to participate in various activities to commemorate the 126th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with the theme "Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan" (Freedom, Tomorrow, History).The celebration will take place from May 28 to June 30, 2024. This year's theme aims to:

  • Honor the heroism and sacrifices of Filipino forefathers who fought for independence.
  • Inspire young Filipinos to appreciate the nation's history and heroes.
  • Promote unity and strength during challenging times.

Key Activities:

  • Simultaneous Flag Raising Ceremony: All schools are encouraged to hold a flag raising ceremony on June 12, 2024, at historical sites or within their schools.
  • Month-long Flag Ceremony Discussions: Regional and division offices, led by Araling Panlipunan supervisors, are encouraged to integrate discussions on the significance of independence into their monthly flag ceremony programs.
  • Other Creative Activities: Schools are free to organize additional creative and fitting activities to celebrate Independence Day.

Additional Information:

  • The DepEd Central Office, regional offices, and schools are encouraged to support the "Pampamahalaang Programa at Serbisyo" exhibition showcasing government programs and services on June 11-12, 2024, at Rizal Park, Manila.
