The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has given the green light for the creation of 25 permanent positions for the Teacher Education Council (TEC) Secretariat under the Department of Education (DepEd).
This move, approved by Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman last May 21, aims to strengthen the TEC Secretariat's capacity to fulfill its mandate. The new positions are included in the revised organizational structure and staffing pattern (OSSP) for the agency.
Secretary Pangandaman emphasized that this decision aligns with Republic Act No. 11713, or the Excellence in Teacher Education Act, and supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s commitment to improving the welfare of Filipino teachers.
"As President Bongbong Marcos said, we need to take concrete steps to uplift the lives of our educators," Pangandaman said in a DBM press release. "By providing support to programs that enhance the quality of their teaching, we contribute to a more dynamic and effective education system."
The TEC plays a crucial role in ensuring quality teacher education by offering scholarships, promoting teacher degree programs, and advocating for a modern and equitable education landscape.
To further empower the Council, the DBM also approved the creation of four new units within the TEC Secretariat:
- Office of the Executive Director
- Student Incentives Support Office
- Quality Pre-Service Teacher Education Office
- Quality Teaching Office
These new units and positions are expected to streamline operations and allow the TEC Secretariat to deliver on its programs and projects more efficiently.
This development signifies the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening the country's teacher education system, ultimately aiming to benefit both educators and students.
