The Department of Education (DepEd), through its Learner Rights and Protection Office (LRPO), is lauding the successful completion of the second batch of its Child Protection E-learning Course. As of June 5, 2024, a total of 2,548 participants have finished the online program, demonstrating a strong commitment from educators in safeguarding children's well-being.
This collaboratively developed course, created by LRPO and the Stairway Foundation Inc. (SFI), is designed to equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively protect students from various forms of abuse and neglect. The program tackles a range of topics, including:
- Identifying signs and symptoms of child maltreatment
- Understanding different types of child abuse (physical, emotional, sexual, neglect)
- Recognizing the impact of child abuse on a child's development
- Responding appropriately to suspected child abuse
- Reporting procedures and available support resources
The Child Protection E-learning Course is available online until June 30, 2024, offering DepEd's Licensed Professional Teachers (LPTs) a valuable opportunity to:
- Deepen their understanding of child protection issues.
- Enhance their ability to identify and respond to potential threats to children's safety.
- Earn ten (10) Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points upon course completion.
LRPO and SFI strongly encourage all LPTs who haven't yet participated to take advantage of this free online resource before the deadline. By increasing the number of child protection advocates within schools and across all levels of DepEd governance, the initiative aims to create a safer and more supportive learning environment for all students.
