The skies above Leyte are poised to welcome two magnificent Philippine Eagles as part of a groundbreaking translocation effort! This exciting initiative marks a significant milestone during Philippine Eagle Week 2024.
Earlier today, these two majestic birds arrived safely in Burauen, Leyte, transported in a special "Comfort Class" Airlift courtesy of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) Tactical Operations Wing Eastern Mindanao and the Department of National Defense (DND).
Their new home awaits within specially constructed hack cages, prepared with the support of the Office of the DENR Secretary. These temporary enclosures will provide the eagles with a safe space to acclimate to their new surroundings before their grand release into the wild.
This momentous occasion echoes the spirit of Douglas MacArthur's famous quote, "We shall return," signifying the return of the Philippine Eagle to its rightful place in Leyte's skies.
A Collaborative Effort for Conservation
The success of this translocation is a testament to the tireless efforts of numerous partners. The Department of National Defense and the Philippine Air Force played a crucial role in transporting the eagles and translocation crew. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XI and CENRO-Davao facilitated the local transport permit for the birds.
