Vice President of the Philippines and Secretary of the Department of Education, Sara Z. Duterte, has issued a statement in response to the recent arrest of Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy. The arrest, which was carried out amidst chaotic circumstances, has raised questions about the excessive use of force and authority in front of civilians.
In her statement, Duterte expressed solidarity with those calling for the proper, acceptable, and humane enforcement of law and promotion of justice in the country. She emphasized the importance of not forgetting the safety of everyone, especially civilians, and ensuring that children are kept far from danger during law enforcement activities.
Duterte also reminded that violence against citizens is a violation of our democracy. She urged for the maintenance of respect, order, and peace in the country. She called on the people of Davao and the entire Filipino nation to remain calm and united in prayer for truth and justice.
“Shukran,” she concluded, expressing gratitude in Arabic, a language spoken by many in the southern Philippines.
This statement comes in the wake of the controversial arrest of Pastor Quiboloy, which has sparked a nationwide debate on the conduct of law enforcement agencies.
