AFP Denies BGen Macanas Jr. Remarks on Alleged Walkout by Generals

July 17, 2024 - The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has dismissed claims made by retired Brigadier General Johnny Macanas Jr. regarding a supposed walkout by generals during a recent command conference. In a statement released today, AFP spokesperson Colonel Francel Margareth Padilla refuted the information, calling it "unfounded" and "misleading."

"There is no truth to the recent commentary by BGen Johnny Macanas Jr. (Ret) on a radio 'blind item,'" the statement reads. It further criticizes BGen Macanas Jr.'s actions, stating his comments were "uncharacteristic of any military officer, active or retired."

Colonel Padilla emphasized the professionalism and loyalty of the AFP to the chain of command. The statement condemns attempts to "malign our ranks and discredit our commitment to our mandate" and calls such efforts "clout-chasing" driven by "personal political agenda."

The AFP urged the public to be critical of information they consume and to report individuals or channels spreading disinformation.
