Coast Guard Suspends Sea Travel in Dinagat Islands Due to Unfavorable Weather

July 17, 2024 - The Philippine Coast Guard Station in Dinagat Islands has suspended sea travel for small vessels due to unfavorable weather conditions brought about by the southwest monsoon.

The suspension, effective Wednesday, July 17, 2024, applies to all types of vessels and watercrafts with a gross tonnage (GT) of 30 or below operating within the province.

The decision comes after the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) issued a forecast at 4:00 AM on July 17th, predicting cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms in MIMAROPA, Visayas, and Mindanao.

"The safety of our passengers and maritime personnel is our top priority," said Coast Guard Station Commander, CG ENS Erol Jade A. Ramos. "We urge the public to cooperate with this suspension and to take precautionary measures while at sea."

The Coast Guard advises all small watercrafts to exercise caution and implement safety measures during this time.

The suspension order will remain in effect until further notice. The Coast Guard encourages the public to monitor weather updates from PAGASA for the latest information.
