July 19, 2024 - In a groundbreaking initiative, the Philippines is set to host the inaugural International Nuclear Science Olympiad (INSO) from July 31 to August 7, 2024. This historic event will gather the brightest young minds from 13 countries across the Asia-Pacific region at the National Government Administrative Center (NGAC) in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.
Organized by the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (DoST-PNRI), in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), DoST-National Research Council of the Philippines, and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the INSO aims to promote awareness and underscore the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
The Philippines, spearheading this year's competition, will see secondary-level students from participating nations engage in rigorous theoretical and practical exams to showcase their proficiency in nuclear science. This initiative marks a significant stride in fostering international cooperation and advancing scientific education among youth in the region.
Countries joining the Philippines in this pioneering event include Bahrain, Iran, Jordan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and the United Arab Emirates.
Although the competitions are not open to the public, enthusiasts can stay updated on the journey of these future scientists through the social media platforms of DoST-PNRI. The INSO promises to be a platform where talent meets opportunity, setting the stage for collaborative advancement in nuclear science across Asia-Pacific.
