Juan Edgardo Angara Assumes DepEd Leadership, Vows Educational Reform

July 18, 2024 - Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara assumed the role of Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) today, succeeding Vice President Sara Duterte, who resigned from the position last month.

During a brief ceremony held at the DepEd Complex in Pasig City, Vice President Duterte formally handed over the DepEd Seal and Flag to Angara, symbolizing the transfer of leadership. Angara, a former senator and now the 37th Education Secretary of the Philippines, delivered his inaugural address, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve under President Bong Bong Marcos.

"It is a great honor bestowed upon us by President Bong Bong Marcos to serve as Secretary of the Department of Education," Angara remarked humbly. He pledged to enhance educational quality across the country, responding to the President's trust and the challenges ahead.

Angara also acknowledged his predecessor and other outgoing DepEd officials for their dedication, recognizing Vice President Sara Z. Duterte and their team for their steadfast support during challenging times.

"We will continue to build on the foundations you have laid," Angara assured his predecessor, emphasizing continuity in education policies.

The DepEd community and various stakeholders have expressed optimism about Angara's leadership, anticipating constructive reforms under his tenure.
