While many nations observe a single "Statistics Day" (98 out of 103!), and a select few have a "Statistics Week" (4 countries), the Philippines takes things a step further with a whole month! This special celebration is called National Statistics Month (NSM), observed every October [Philippine Statistics Authority, psa.gov.ph].

This year marks the 35th anniversary of NSM, making it a long-standing tradition. But why dedicate a whole month to statistics?
The goals of NSM are twofold:
- Promote awareness and appreciation: NSM aims to educate Filipinos about the importance of statistics in everyday life. From informing government policies to guiding business decisions, data plays a crucial role in shaping our nation's progress.
- Encourage public participation: NSM fosters cooperation between the public and the Philippine Statistical System (PSS). By actively participating in data collection and dissemination, Filipinos can contribute to a more accurate and valuable statistical landscape.
