Philippines and China Join Forces to Fight Transnational Crime

July 02, 2024 - In a move hailed as a significant step towards regional security, China and the Philippines pledged to strengthen their cooperation in combating organized crime. The commitment came following a productive meeting between Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian and Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Chairman of the Philippines' Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC).

The discussion, held on July 1st, focused on ways to bolster their partnership against transnational criminal activities. China expressed its appreciation for the Philippines' recent efforts in cracking down on illegal offshore gambling and rescuing Chinese nationals. This collaboration, along with open communication channels maintained by both embassies, demonstrates a shared determination to curb organized crime.

This enhanced cooperation sends a clear message to criminal syndicates: their activities will not be tolerated. It paves the way for increased collaboration – including expertise exchange, intelligence sharing, and joint operations – to effectively disrupt and dismantle criminal networks.

"This renewed commitment signifies a proactive approach by both countries to protect their citizens and maintain law and order," stated a spokesperson for the PAOCC. "With a confident and determined stance, we are well-positioned to overcome challenges and ensure justice prevails."

The strengthened partnership between these Asian nations holds promise for a safer and more secure region.
