SENATOR BINAY URGES NBI TO MODERNIZE DATABASE FOLLOWING CLEARANCE ANOMALIES

July 10, 2024 - Senator Nancy Binay has called on the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to overhaul its database system to swiftly detect irregularities following recent discrepancies in its records.

During today's session of the Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, Senator Binay pressed for updates in the NBI's data management. Her concerns were sparked by inquiries into the records of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo and another individual sharing similar personal details with the mayor.

Responding to the senator's queries, NBI representative Atty. Angelito Magno disclosed that anomalies were uncovered in the clearance applications attributed to "Alice Leal Guo" only recently. He noted that the bureau had only automated its clearance application process in 2015.

Senator Binay emphasized the urgency of implementing advanced technology at the NBI, stressing the need for a system that integrates data acquired prior to 2015 seamlessly. "Baka kailangang gumamit ng NBI ng technology wherein a data that was acquired before 2015, eh maisasama pa rin doon sa sistema nila," Binay urged.

The senator's call for a database upgrade aims to enhance the NBI's capability to flag inconsistencies promptly and ensure the integrity of its records moving forward.
