DepEd Launches Gawad Teodora Alonso 2024: Storybook Writing Competition for Educators and Learners

August 09, 2024 - Calling all storytellers! The Department of Education (DepEd), through the Bureau of Learning Resources (BLR), officially announces the Gawad Teodora Alonso (GTA) 2024, the sixth edition of the prestigious storybook writing competition.

This nationwide program aims to:

  • Highlight the power of storytelling: Promote the use of illustrated storybooks as tools to enhance reading skills and learning across various curriculum areas.
  • Unleash creativity: Harvest original children's stories that showcase learning competencies aligned with the MATATAG Curriculum.
  • Recognize talent: Celebrate the creativity and expertise of classroom teachers, non-teaching personnel, education leaders, and learners in crafting engaging stories for young readers.
  • Fuel literacy programs: Build a rich collection of storybooks that can be used as reading resources and further develop engaging media for reading and literacy initiatives.

Open to classroom teachers, non-teaching personnel, education leaders, specialists, supervisors, and learners, the GTA 2024 offers exciting categories with specific eligibility requirements. The official mechanics, required documents, and judging criteria can be found in the program's annexes.

To ensure a smooth competition, several committees have been established at the National, Regional, and Division levels. These committees include the Management Committee, Technical Working Committee, and Screening Committee.
