DepEd Strengthens Madrasah Education Program with Increased Funding and Support

The Department of Education (DepEd) recently issued DepEd Order No. 011, s. 2024, to strengthen the Madrasah Education Program (MEP). This initiative aims to provide Muslim learners with culturally appropriate and Islamic-friendly educational opportunities.

Key Highlights of DepEd Order No. 011, s. 2024:

  • Enhanced Support for ALIVE Classes: The order emphasizes the integration of Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) into the curriculum of public and private madaris (schools).
  • Increased Program Support Funds: DepEd will increase funding allocated to regional and schools division offices for the MEP. These funds can be used for various program expenses, following government accounting regulations.
  • Revised Eligibility Criteria for Program Funds: The order revises the criteria for schools and teachers to receive program support funds. Here's a breakdown of the changes:
    • Schools: Public elementary and/or secondary schools with organized ALIVE classes must have a minimum of 10 Muslim learners per class to qualify for funding.
    • Teachers: Ustadz/Ustadzah handling ALIVE classes must have a minimum of 10 Muslim learners per class to be eligible for compensation.
    • Funding Allocation: The allocation of funds will depend on the number of participating schools and enrolled Muslim learners in ALIVE classes within each region and school division.
  • Improved Compensation for Contract of Service (COS) Teachers: COS Asatidz handling ALIVE classes will receive a regular monthly compensation of P12,500.00 inclusive of instructional materials allowance.

Effective Date and Implementation:

  • The amended provisions will take effect starting Fiscal Year 2024 onwards.
  • All other provisions of DepEd Order No. 025, s. 2021, not affected by these amendments, remain in effect.
  • This order is effective immediately upon its publication on the DepEd website and registration with the Office of the National Administrative Register (ONAR).
